Shahbaz Vardag, Barrister & Solicitor
A family law practice with a clear focus: uncontested divorces, done efficiently and correctly, backed by the full capability to handle contested matters when they arise.
“The end of a marriage does not have to mean a courtroom battle. For most couples, a well-drafted separation agreement and a properly filed divorce application is all that is required.”
Background
Shahbaz Vardag is a Barrister & Solicitor called to the Ontario bar. The firm operates from Mississauga and serves clients across the province, with a practice focused on efficient resolution of family law matters.
Uncontested divorce is the firm’s primary offering because it is, for most separating couples, the right tool for the job. When two people have already agreed on the terms of their separation, the role of a lawyer is to make sure the paperwork is drafted, signed, and filed correctly so that those terms are recognised by the court and enforceable.
Practice today
The firm handles the full range of family law matters: uncontested and contested divorces, separation agreements, parenting arrangements, child and spousal support, property division under the Family Law Act, and marriage or cohabitation contracts. Files can start simple and become contested, or start contested and resolve; the practice is designed to handle either trajectory.
Why uncontested divorce is our primary focus
Most divorces in Ontario do not require adversarial litigation. What they require is:
- A clear, comprehensive separation agreement.
- Satisfaction of the statutory one-year separation period.
- A correctly completed Form 8A application.
- Proper service on the responding spouse (where applicable).
- A properly filed divorce order and Certificate of Divorce.
Each of those steps has rules. Getting any of them wrong can delay a divorce by months or, in the worst cases, require the entire application to be restarted. The firm’s work is getting those steps right the first time so that clients can move forward.
Approach
Clients are kept informed in plain language. Fees for uncontested divorces are fixed wherever possible, so that cost is known from the start. Where a matter is more complex — contested custody, significant assets, spousal support disputes — the firm provides a clear scoping conversation before any retainer is signed.
